Kiki Carter Webb (Kimberli Wilson)

a moment on a distant shore
a personal account of a near-death experience

(Kimberli Wilson)

As musicians who perform frequently, we're often asked where the our duo name "dancing Light" originated, and why we use a lower case d and a capital L.

It comes from an experience I had in the summer of 1983 following an unintentional overdose of the pain medication fiorinol.  I had taken two fiorinol tablets before returning to a clinic I'd been seen in. The clinic nurse gave me an injection of fiorinol, not knowing I had already taken two pills.

This personal account of my near death experience was written the day after.  When I told my Mother what happened, she urged me to immediately write it down. At the time Mom was publishing a magazine
called New Age Gainesville. Mom published the account in the  September issue on page 25. Kimberli Wilson was my name at birth.

I was twenty-five years old at the time. I had no idea what had happened to me or where I went, but through subsequent readings of other similar experiences I learned that there was a name for the journey I took (NDE) and that it had happened to other people.

For a full day after the experience, I could see the Light glittering everywhere, in everything. Before the NDE I experienced matter as being very solid.  Afterwards, it was as if I could see the very smallest building blocks of the Universe which were tiny miniature replicas of that Light. My perception was that all matter is just light, nothing else. It was my curiosity surrounding this this aftervision that was a catalyst for my journey into the world of holograms and quantum physics. This perception also inspired the song, dancing Light,  from which we took the name for our acoustic duo.
The L in "Light" is capitalized because it represents the Being of Light  that I encountered.  You can read the lyrics by clicking here or scrolling down below the article.

I also continued to hear the music from my NDE.  Somehow the music was living ...  not sure how to describe it ... but it had a life of it's own and was also somehow part of the being of light. It was tranquil and lovely ... a sustained bass note with a fairly prominent open 5th harmonic. Above that were contrapuntal weavings of some sort. I often think it must be what is meant by the phrase, "music of the spheres."  It reminds me of the way J.S. Bach writes and I've often wondered if Bach heard this same music in his lifetime.

Since that day in 1983, the veil has unexpectedly parted for me on multiple occasions and I have experienced other visions and paranormal phenomenon. These moments have become more commonplace for me and I am making peace with the idea that there is more to the human journey than what conventional science would have me believe. Fortunately,  material on these subjects keeps finding it's way to me.  Most recently I was perusing a library booksale in Walker, Minnesota when a paperback book keep drawing my attention.  Greg and I are in the process of "purging" our excess material possessions right now, so I am especially careful about bringing anything new into the house. I picked it up the book a couple of times, and finally was persuaded by my intuition to exchange a quarter for it.

The book is called The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot. I've read the first two chapters and spot read other random openings of the book.  I am affected in powerful ways by what I am reading. Michael Talbot discusses quantum theory and the nature of the universe, often quoting the work of pioneers in the field such as David Bohm, Karl Pribram and others.

Equally fascinating are passages about Sathya Sai Baba and Paramahansa Yogananda.  I'd heard a personal account of Sai Baba's manifestations from a friend who travelled to India to see him. Talbot's book is offering me additional insights.  After my near-death experience  I read Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda.  There is a chapter called "The Resurection of Sri Yukteswar"  in which Yogananda recounts a conversation he had with his guru, after his guru's passing.  There were elements of Yukteswar's description of the astral plane that were eerily similar to what I experienced.

What I know for sure (as Oprah would say) is that I don't know anything for sure and life gets more mysterious with each revolution of our planet around the sun.

Hope this sheds some light!  :)

Mom scanned this article for me yesterday, so that I could share it with you.  I drew the picture of the light and clouds for this article in my Mom's publication.

dancing Light
(the song lyrics)

constellations
floating by
stars are shooting
across the sky

sun shimmies up
clouds ignite
earth spinning
moon grinning
everything is dancing
dancing Light

the Light is dancing, yeah
the Light is dancing
the Light is dancing, yeah

eagles tumble
heart to heart
in the canyon
a fire starts
life emerging
then rebirthing
imploding
exploding
everything is dancing
dancing Light

the Light is dancing, yeah
the Light is dancing
the Light is dancing, yeah

river rising
melting snow
dams bursting and
waters flow
day breaking
bear waking
earth spinning
moon grinning
everything is dancing
dancing Light

the Light is dancing, yeah
the Light is dancing
the Light is dancing, yeah

We've never released a recording of this song, though we may in the future.  There was a demo of the song, dancing Light,  made for a film director (Liev Schreiber) a couple of years ago. This is an mp3 of that demo. You may download it and keep it if you'd like.
