I Dream...
That young and old, rich and poor,
Black and white,
Peoples from North and South,
From all beliefs and cultures
Will join hands, minds and hearts
In an unprecendented, universal
Bimillennium Celebration of Life.
I Dream...
That the year 2000
Will be declared World Year of Thanksgiving
By the United Nations.
I Dream...
That during the year 2000
Innumerable celebrations and events
Will take place all over the globe
To gauge the long hard road covered by humanity
To study our mistakes
And to plan the feats
Still to be accomplished
For the full flowering of the human race
In peace, justice and happiness.
I Dream...
That the few remaining years
To the Bimillennium
Be devoted by all humans, nations and institutions
To unparalleled thinking, action,
Inspiration, elevation,
Determination and love
To solve our remaining problems
And to achieve
A peaceful, united human family on Earth.
I Dream...
That the third millennium
Will be declared
And made
Humanity's First Millennium of Peace.
Dr. Robert Muller, Chancellor for the University For Peace, and former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, received the 1989 UNESCO Prize for Peace Education. Dr. Muller says his greatest honor is not this award, or being decorated by the Pope, or even his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, but the remark of a custodian at a school named after him who said, "In all my years here I have never seen two children fight."
There are 29 Robert Muller Schools, and Dr. Muller is called "the father of Global Education" with his world core curriculum. Robert believes that his approach to education works as a model for global education in an interdependent world. In his acceptance speech for the UNESCO Peace Prize, Muller urged governments to take peace education seriously, for the adoption of the World Core Curriculum, and for increased support of international schools.
In honor of the 1000 Day CountUP to the Year 2000, which began on April 6, 1997, Dr. Muller is proud to offer 1000 ideas - 1 for each day of the CountUP - for building a better world. Each week 7 new ideas from Dr. Muller will be posted on the World Peace 2000 site. We can make EACH DAY count... one day at a time...
