Priscilla Normandy Greenwood's Family Album

Old Photos of Normandia Grandparents,
Michele (Michael) Antonio Normandia
and Giovannina (Jennie) Tuorto

Uncle Henry (Anniello) Normandia, New York Grandma Normandy and Aunt Jennie Tuorto in Italy
Grandma Normandia,
Uncle Henry (Anniello) Normandia,
and Grandpa Normandia
Taken at 37 Conselyea St.
Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
Uncle Henry enlisted in the Army
on July 22, 1942, to serve in World War II.
He also lived at 37 Conselyea St.
Grandma Normandia and her brother and sister-in-law, my granduncle Salvatore (Sam) Tuorto, and grandaunt Giovannina (Jennie) Montanino, went to Italy and sent this photo postcard. They took their Cadillac on the ship to drive all over Italy. My cousin, Uncle George's son, Michael Normandy, told me he remembers going to meet their ship when they returned. It was before I was born, around 1927 or so. My sister, Jean (Angelina) was in kindergarten then.
A classic! Michael Normandia on the left Giovannina Normandia in fancy dress
Grandpa Normandia on the left. I have no idea who the other men are. Do you? I would think they are related judging by the formality of this studio photo taken in New York.  I don't know what the occasion was for this fancy dress, but it must have been important! Mom told me Grandma was pregnant here.
Normandia gravestone at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY
Thanks to volunteer, Susan C. Wojtowicz,
for taking this photo.
Michael and Giovannina (Tuorto) Normandia's gravestone in Calvary Cemetery, Laurel Hill Blvd, Woodside, Queens County, New York. The odd thing about this is that the last name is my father, Sylvester. He is not buried there. He had a military funeral and is buried at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn, Suffolk Co., NY

Now Playing: "O Sole Mio"

O SOLE MIO
Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole,
n'aria serena doppo na tempesta!
Pe' ll'aria fresca pare gia' na festa
Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole.

Ma n'atu sole
cchiu' bello, oi ne'.
'O sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te!
'O sole, 'o sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te,
sta 'nfronte a te!

Lùcene 'e llastre d''a fenesta toia;
'na lavannara canta e se ne vanta
e pe' tramente torce, spanne e canta
lùcene 'e llastre d'a fenesta toia.

Ma n'atu sole
cchiu' bello, oi ne'.
'O sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te!
'O sole, 'o sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te,
sta 'nfronte a te!

Quanno fa notte e 'o sole se ne scenne,
me vene quase 'na malincunia;
sotto 'a fenesta toia restarria
quanno fa notte e 'o sole se ne scenne.

Ma n'atu sole
cchiu' bello, oi ne'.
'O sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te!
'O sole, 'o sole mio
sta 'nfronte a te,
sta 'nfronte a te!
