Fiscus-Dyar Reunion

Fiscus-Dyar Family Reunion
1923 -  At Uncle Bill's home in Illinois, USA

William Robert Dyar is standing to the right of a woman in the back row, King Solomon Dyar is seated, holding a baby, to the right of him is my great-grandmother, Mary Susanna (Dyar) Fiscus, next to her is her husband,  my great-grandfather, Aaron Fiscus. Also in this picture is Uncle King's wife,   Elizabeth Ellen (Norris), but we are not sure which one she is. If anyone has any further information about the photo, or the other people in it, please contact me at contact @mysticplanet.com (remove space after contact)

William Robert, King Solomon, and Mary Susanna, were three of the twelve children of Robert Dyar, born August 08, 1815, in Owen County, Indiana, and Elizabeth Miller, who was born in North Carolina on July 30, 1821. Their children in order of birth were:  James Madison, Thomas Jacob, Samuel Lewis, King Solomon, Mary Susanna, Sarah (Sally) Abigail, Owen Padgett, Margaret Elizabeth, William Robert, Lafayette, Lucinda Jane, and Alice. Alice is the only one I don't have a birth date for so I'm not sure where she goes in this chronological list.

William Robert Dyar was born April 02, 1856 in Freedom, Owen County, Indiana and died December 2, 1935. "Uncle Bill" married  Mary Frances Jester  in Owen County. Mary Frances was born June 30, 1855 in Owen County and died March 20, 1911. They had four children: Melvin Roy, Maude Bell, Grover Estell, and Fawn Everette.

King Solomon Dyar was born December 27, 1846 in Owen County. "Uncle King" was married on August 02, 1868 in Spencer, Indiana, to Elizabeth Ellen Norris, who was born in 1850 in Coshocton County, Ohio.  They had 13 children listed in birth order: Sarah Alice, Jacob Elmer, Robert Emory, John Dennis, William Joseph, James Bert, Bertha Belle, Charles Milton, George Earl, Lanie Everett, Grover Ivan, Edythe Almae and Clifford.

This is a photo  of their gravestone in Pleasant Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, just outside of Freedom, Indiana.  It was taken in 1999 by their great-grandson, Frank Dyar, son of Carl Clifton Dyar &  Ruth A. (Moyer) Dyar. Frank was born in Peru, Indiana, and lives in Florida with his wife, Vonice.  Carl Clifton was the son of James Bert Dyar and Emma Hauser Dyar.

Mary Susanna Dyar was my great-grandmother. She was born August 16, 1848, in Owen County, Indiana, and died in 1919.  She married Aaron Fiscus in Owen County on September 14, 1867.  Aaron Fiscus was born February 9, 1839 and died  January 22, 1928. They had 8 children, including  my grandmother, Martha Ellen (Fiscus) (Mahorney) Greenwood. Their children, in order of birth, were:
Zachariah, Tylar, Martha Ellen, Jacob, Lilly, Robert E. (Bert), Fred, and Amos. They are both buried in Pleasant Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Greenbrier, Owen Co.

In 1994, my father, Arthur Greenwood told me in a taped interview, "My grandfather (Aaron Fiscus) was a very strong man. He was only 5'2" but he was really strong. My grandmother (Mary Susanna Dyar Fiscus) was about 5'7" tall." I was sorry I never met them. They both died long before I was born.

This photograph was given to me by my grandmother, Martha Ellen  Greenwood, who was born in Coal City, Indiana, July 18, 1872, and died in Linton, Indiana, March 03, 1978 at 105 years of age.
